Stopover in Hong Kong - Beaches Stopover travellers might not think of Hong Kong as a beach resort. But there are plenty of places to take a cooling dip, lounge on the sands or get that last-minute tan before heading back for colder climes. Here is our selection of Stopover beaches.

Deep Water Bay

This attractive bay lies beyond Aberdeen along a scenic coastal road flanked by flame trees and imposing cliffside mansions. Its public beach, one of the most attractive in Hong Kong, is next to the Hong Kong Golf Club's annex. A scenic pathway winds along the coast from here to Repulse Bay.

To get there, take bus no. 6, 6A, 6X, 61 or 260 from Exchange Square Bus Terminus.

Repulse Bay

One of Hong Kong's most famous beaches, Repulse Bay actually means "shallow water bay". It is arguably the most popular beach in Hong Kong, and is easily accessible by bus or taxi from Central Bus Terminus.

Take bus numbers. 6, 6A, 6X, 61 or 260.

Shek O

Seen from the hill above, the popular seaside destination of Shek O looks fantastic. The ambience is still traditional and rustic. The water quality is fair and it is a popular beach for watersports.

Take the Metro to Shau Kei Wan MTR Station, exit A3. Then take bus no. 9 to Shek O.

Golden Beach

Golden Beach is the first artificial beach in Hong Kong and stretches over half a kilometre in length. The beach is unique in Hong Kong featuring a volleyball court, which is occasionally visited by the Hong Kong Beach Volleyball Team. Water quality is fair and Golden Beach has facilities like refreshment kiosks, a hotel and a shopping mall.

Golden Beach is served by the 52M bus from Kwai Fong and the 53 bus from Tsuen Wan.

Turtle Cove Beach

Turtle Cove Beach is located at the west of Tai Tam Reservoir, and is only 70 meters long. The beach boasts absolutely crystal clear water which makes swimming at Turtle Cove Beach very memorable. The beach isn’t very popular which makes it the ideal place to relax. There are many facilities including changing rooms, toilets and showers. There is also a small playground, a soft drinks kiosk and few barbecue pits are also there.

To get there you can take the 14 bus from the exit A of the Sai Wan Ho MTR station or the 16X bus from Chai Wan.

Silvermine Beach

Silvermine beach is located on the island of Lantau. The beach is known for it’s beauty and surroundings. Silvermine beach is a very popular beach and has a good water quality. The beach can get very crowded at the weekends and public holidays. Silvermine beach has many facilities including refreshment kiosks, restaurants, changing rooms, rafts and showers.

To get to the island of Lantau you would need to take a ferry and then a bus.

Lo So Shing beach

Lo So Shing beach is a well-visited beach on the island of Lamma. The beach has crystal clear water,where fish can be seen.Lo So Shing beach is an isolated beach with tranquil surroundings.

To get there you would need to take a ferry to Sok Kwu Wan and then walk for a few minutes.

Stanley Main Beach

Stanley Main beach is a famous beach in the eastern side of Stanley. The beach is sandy and has areas designed for barbecues. The beach is popular with windsurfers and hosts the Stanley Dragon Boat Championships every June.
