Horse Racing
To experience the thrill of a horse racing event in Hong Kong, try getting along to one of the following tracks: Happy Valley (website)Home to Hong Kong horse racing since 1846, Happy Valley is a world famous and instantly recognisable race course. The majority of race meetings here are held on Wednesday evenings, where colour, atmosphere and fervent betting contribute to an unforgettable time. Admission costs just HK $10 - although with horse racing being one of few things Hong Kong folk can legally bet on - the costs of an evening usually go higher for the locals! One racing season in Hong Kong can pull in around HK$91 billion. Sha Tin (website)One of the two biggest and most popular courses in the country, Sha Tin literally means "sand field". It features one turf track, and, as the name suggests, one all weather course. It is located in the new territories, and stages some of the biggest races on the country's horse racing calendar - namely the Hong Kong Cup, the Hong Kong Mile and the Hong Kong Sprint. Racing season is September-June, and during this time stopover visitors can take advantage of special tours via the Hong Kong tourist board. The "Come Horseracing Tour" are exclusively for foreign visitors, and include admission to the race day and a buffet style meal. Details available by calling( 852) 2366 3995 or (852) 2508 1234, or by emailing chrdept@splendidtours.com
